Evening Presentations & Events

Throughout the school year, the SHS Counseling Department hosts various evening presentations, workshops, and events for students and their parents. Below is a brief description of each presentation.  For dates and times, please refer to the school calendar.  

Financial Aid Night

An outside financial aid expert comes to present the latest information on financial aid, including FAFSA application, grants, loans, and scholarships. This is a presentation and then has a question and answer session at the end.

FAFSA Completion Night

An outside financial aid expert is present to assist families with the completion of the FAFSA. Families are encouraged to bring all necessary materials to work on and submit the FAFSA. Personal questions can be addressed one-on-one. Families participating must bring their own device, have the necessary accounts created, and bring the required documentation to complete the online application. 

Dollars For Scholars Profile Workshop

This workshop is to help seniors create their Dollars for Scholars profile. Counselors and members of the Foundation are present to help guide families through the application process and answer questions as they arise. Families participating must bring their own device, and students should be present.

Scholarship Information/Dollars For Scholars Application Night

[Sessions are held in separate locations, both starting in the cafeteria]
Juniors: learn about the different types of financial aid, types of scholarships, how to find them, and how to apply. 
Seniors: help is provided by counselors and members of the Foundation to complete Dollars For Scholars scholarship applications. Families participating must bring their own device, and students should be present. The focus of this night is on completing applications, but any students needing assistance with the profile are welcome to come. 

Life After SHS: Trades Information Night

This presentation is held prior to or during the scheduling window to provide more information to families on what opportunities are available during and after high school. We provide an overview of direct entry ways into the workforce or the trades, right out of high school. 

College and Career Fair

A variety of colleges, trade schools, and businesses are present at individual tables and families are able to walk around and collect information from the places they are interested in.  More information is provided on the College and Career Fair page of the website.  

Dual Enrollment Information Night

Held in March, after partnering colleges have the opportunity to share updates pertaining to  their dual enrollment programs (cost, courses, format of courses, etc.).  Provides information on the process for SHS and for the selected college of interest. Discusses what dual enrollment is, the timeline, comparable college courses for SHS credit, and important information to consider when choosing dual enrollment.

Rising Senior Night

Counselors provide information on graduation requirements, mainly focusing on Act 158. A brief overview of the different pathways for after high school are presented and information is provided on what steps students and families can focus on.
