Financial Aid & Scholarships

Welcome to the SHS School Counseling Department’s Financial Aid & Scholarships page. Here students and parents or guardians can find more information relating to financial aid support for college.

For more information, please see the links on the left of this page.

FAFSA

**Beginning with the 2026-2027 academic year, every 12th grade student and their parent(s)/guardian(s) need to complete the FAFSA or complete a district form indicating that they are opting out of that state requirement.**

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is an electronic form that colleges use to determine a student’s eligibility for financial aid.  The form should initially be completed during a student’s 12th grade year and then updated annually by students and their parents/guardians.

Due to the uniqueness surrounding each family's circumstances, counselors can only provide general answers and information. For more in-depth assistance, we encourage you to locate and attend a local “FAFSA Help” event offered by PHEAA or our annual FAFSA Completion Night. They can be located using this link:  https://www.pheaa.org/college-planning/fafsa/help-events.shtml.

Scholarships

The SHS Counseling Office provides an ongoing list of scholarships that are available to students. The Scholarship Bulletin is distributed via email each month, and a link to the Scholarship Bulletin can be found in the Counseling Newsletter, which is also distributed monthly.  The most recent Scholarship Bulletins is available hanging outside the Counseling Office.  Individual scholarships are listed online in Naviance.

College Scholarship Service Profile (CSS)

The CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE, short for the College Scholarship Service PROFILE, is an application distributed by the College Board allowing college students to apply for financial aid.
