Parent Resources for Social & Emotional Supports

Welcome to the SHS School Counseling Department’s Parent Resources for Social & Emotional Supports page. Here, students and parents or guardians can find more information about interpersonal, intrapersonal, and emotional supports for students.

The Pennsylvania Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a team process used to mobilize school resources to remove barriers to learning. The primary goal of the Student Assistance Program is to help students overcome these barriers so that they may achieve, advance, and remain in school.   The core team is comprised of school staff and liaisons from community agencies who are trained to identify issues, determine whether or not the presenting issue lies within the responsibility of the school, and make recommendations to assist the student and the parent. SAP team members do not diagnose, treat, or refer to treatment. It is the parent’s right to be involved in the process and to have full access to all school records under the applicable state and federal laws and regulations. Involvement of parents in all phases of the Student Assistance Program underscores the parents’ role and responsibility in the decision–making process affecting their child’s education and is key to the successful resolution of barriers. Student Assistance Program Referral Form

School-based Outpatient Therapy is available through Pennsylvania Comprehensive Behavioral Health (PCBH) during the school day. PCBH is an outside provider approved by the district and the state to provide therapeutic services within our district buildings to provide convenience to families who are unable to access those resources outside of the typical school day.  For more information, contact your child's School Counselor.
