Principal's Message

James Sterner

Welcome, Students and Families of Susquehannock High School!

Susquehannock High School is a truly special place to learn and grow, mainly because our staff and students make it a "home away from home" where everyone feels safe and comfortable taking academic risks, finding their passions, and beginning to chart the course of their life's journey.

Creating that "comfortable learning environment" for our Warriors starts with Link Crew (upperclassmen mentors) providing transition activities for our freshman students.  It flows into our classrooms which have common Warrior Expectations and our team of staff members committed to growing our students.  It multiplies into an array of academically enriching courses, music, art, and drama opportunities, competitive athletic extracurricular activities, and a growing list of student clubs and activities to provide meaningful engagement and leadership opportunities.

A key aspect of our mission is providing our Warriors with a foundation upon which to build their career aspirations.  From surveying interests to developing career plans and documents to visiting and collaborating with local industry through many programs and classes, we work to prepare our students for work in fields that are fueled by their interests and talents.

The "high school years" and the journey through them can come like waves with peaks and valleys.  It's through these that we often learn the most about ourselves. You and your child are not alone on that journey.  We have an outstanding team of supportive resources to help along the way.  Don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teachers, counselor, and our administrative team.

Wishing your Warrior much success on their journey,

Dr. Sterner's Background:

Dr. Sterner graduated locally from Spring Grove High School before earning his Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education (Mathematics) from Penn State University.  He earned his Masters in Educational Leadership (Principal's Certificate) from Shippensburg University.  He conducted research through Immaculata University regarding school and community partnerships to promote career ready students, which earned him his Doctorate.  Within the district, he has taught high school math courses and served as an Assistant Principal prior to entering into his current role.  While he has worked in another district/school, he considered Susquehannock High School to be his "work home" and the staff and students to be his "work family!"
